Is Telegram going to charge money for their best messaging service? Telegram has become a huge community now. Telegram started its journey almost 7 years ago.  Within these 7 years, this messaging app got over 500 million users, and daily active users are recorded as more than 55 million. The total number of Telegram users is increasing gradually. Telegram is well known for its trusted and reliable free service.

For the last 7 years, it was a fully free platform for its users; It does not cost any money. But is it will remain this way forever? We will discuss in the following article all the possibilities and consequences related to this topic.

I’ve recently read an article online that Telegram might charge money from their users. And got so much new information that Telegram users should know. Telegram does not show ads in their app till now.

I do not know how this huge company earns its revenue to continue its business. In the following section, I’ll write about whether Telegram is going to charge money for their service or not. Are you going to pay them or you don’t need to; let’s solve this issue.

Is Telegram Going to Charge Money?

If you want a one-sentence answer, it will be YES! Telegram is going to charge money. In the last month of 2020, the CEO of Telegram Nikolai Durov said that Telegram is crossing the 500 million users and it needs money to run and continue its service. He also said that he spends money from his savings to run the company. Now it has become so huge that it needs to generate some revenue.

Durov said that Telegram will start to generate revenue from the beginning of 2021. So the time has already come. It means Telegram is already started generating revenue. We hardly noticed that. As  Durov said ‘we will be able to do it in a non-intrusive way. Most users will hardly notice any change’. Even though I’m running Telegram for so long, I never noticed any changes or it never charged me money for any of its services.

Is Telegram Going to Charge Normal Users Like Us?

That’s a very important question to answer. How Telegram is going to generate revenue is a very important issue. Are they going to show ads between chats and messages? Durov said that one-on-one messaging would remain ad-free. As he thinks that displaying ads in the middle of the chats is not a good idea. Users won’t like it much. That means we might not see ads in Telegram chats.

He also added that the services that are currently free in Telegram will remain free. No additional fee will be charged for those features. The free features will stay free. Regular users are going to enjoy Telegram for free forever.

According to Durov’s speech, if Telegram generates money from anything, the community that is using the feature will also be benefited. For example, If Telegram monetizes large public one-to-many channels via the Ad Platform, the owners of these channels will receive free traffic in proportion to their size. So we do not need to worry about this issue at all.

Telegram is not going to charge any money from their normal users and for their free features. They may add some new premium features for premium users. So the users also get benefited. If you want to know more about Telegram you can read about The History Of Telegram
